Sialkot International is the closest airport to Mirpur. Wikipedia records the distance as 110 km, against 130 km from Islamabad, and Mirpur has no airport of its own. If you have a choice of flights, this is the shorter drive and it is on the right side of the country for Kashmir.
It is also, in a real sense, an airport built for you. Sialkot International is the only privately owned airport in Pakistan, funded by the Sialkot business community through a company with 223 directors who each put in Rs 5 million of their own money. When it opened on 11 December 2007, Business Recorder described the case for it plainly: there are millions of expatriates belonging to this golden triangle who frequently come to their homes and go back. The Chamber of Commerce’s own account of the project names overseas Pakistanis of the region as a purpose of the airport.
The travel advice for Azad Kashmir, before anything else
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office advises against all but essential travel to Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and against all travel to within ten miles of the Line of Control. Checked against gov.uk on 1 September 2026.
We put that first because most of the people making this journey are British passport holders visiting family, and almost none of them know it. Two things follow. Most UK travel insurance is void for travel against FCDO advice, so a policy bought for a trip to Pakistan may not cover the part of the trip that is actually in Kashmir. And consular assistance is limited. Visiting family may well be essential travel in your own judgement; that judgement is yours to make, and it is easier to make before you have paid for anything.
None of this applies to Pakistani nationals or to AJK residents, and none of it is a legal bar on anyone. Read the advice yourself, ring your insurer, and then plan the journey.
The airport itself
It sits at Sambrial, 14 km west of Sialkot city, on a 3,600 by 45 metre runway rated ICAO Category 4E, with an apron that takes seven wide-body aircraft. It handled 939,899 passengers in the year to June 2025, up just over ten per cent, which makes it the sixth busiest airport in Pakistan. It is the hub of AirSial, the airline the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry founded, and nine carriers use it: Emirates, Qatar Airways, flydubai, Air Arabia, flyadeal, SalamAir, Fly Jinnah, PIA and AirSial, serving the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait.
What that mix produces on the ground is a particular kind of arrival: late-night wide-body flights from the Gulf, full of families with the maximum baggage allowance, met by relatives who may be an hour away in another district. It is the reason a van is a more common answer here than a car.
The drive to Mirpur
We will be straight about what we can and cannot source for this leg. The 110 km figure comes from Wikipedia. A routing site gives about 117 km and roughly one hour fifty minutes of driving. No authority publishes the route composition for this journey, and we have not found a published toll for it, so we do not print one; the actual cost is folded into the fixed price you’re shown before you pay.
What we can tell you is the shape of it. The airport is on the Punjab plain and Mirpur is across the Jhelum river in Kashmir, so the drive leaves the industrial belt, crosses to the Grand Trunk Road corridor and turns for Mangla. Allow more than the routing estimate if you are landing at two in the morning with a family and a trolley of bags.
Where people are actually going
Rarely to Mirpur city itself. The Mangla Dam displaced more than 110,000 people in the 1960s and submerged the old towns of Mirpur and Dadyal; the raising project between 2004 and 2009 affected 40,000 more and built New Mirpur City together with four satellite towns, Islamgarh, Chakswari, Dadyal and Siakh. Those towns are where the family addresses are, they are separated by a reservoir, and the roads between them go round rather than across.
That is why the Rathoa Haryam bridge matters. At 7,181 metres it is reported as the longest bridge over any reservoir in South Asia, it links Mirpur with Islamgarh, its foundation stone was laid on 22 October 2024, and the final section was reported as due around the middle of 2026. Until it opens, a Mirpur to Islamgarh trip is a long way round.
Name the town, not the district
Dadyal, Chakswari, Islamgarh and Siakh are all “Mirpur” to an airline and all different journeys to a driver. Give us the town and the nearest landmark with your flight number, and tell us how many cases are coming off the belt.
Enter your exact pickup address and Pakistan-local time to see the fare and book. You pay at secure checkout, and your card is only charged once the vehicle and driver are confirmed.

Before you plan this journey UK Foreign Office advice, checked 1 September 2026, advises against all but essential travel to Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and against ALL travel to within ten miles of the Line of Control. That is advice to British nationals, not a legal bar, and it does not apply to Pakistani nationals or AJK residents - but travel against FCDO advice could invalidate your travel insurance, so check your policy before you fly rather than after.
Every way of making this journey
We are one row in this table, and not the cheapest one. Use these reference options to compare a current offer for your own journey.
| Option | Typical cost | Time | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flying to Mirpur | — | — | Not an option. Mirpur has no airport. |
| Islamabad airport instead | — | — | 130 km rather than 110 km, but many more direct UK flights. |

Which vehicle actually fits
These model examples do not confirm the capacity or availability of a particular vehicle. Give the passenger count and the number and size of bags, and check the approved vehicle variation before confirmation.
- Suzuki WagonR 3 passengers, 2 cases Short city transfers on a budget. The tall boot helps more than the engine does.
- Toyota Yaris or Corolla 3 to 4 passengers, 2 to 3 large cases The workhorse. City work, airport transfers and the motorway run between Lahore and Islamabad.
- Honda BR-V 5 passengers with luggage, or 7 with almost none Family airport transfers on paved routes. The third row eats the boot, so it suits children or short hops rather than seven adults with cases. Not a mountain vehicle.
- Toyota Fortuner 5 passengers with full luggage, 7 travelling light For a mountain itinerary, confirm the actual vehicle variation, drivetrain and current route suitability before booking.
- Toyota Land Cruiser 4 to 5 passengers with full luggage Confirm the actual vehicle variation, passenger and luggage fit, and current route suitability before booking.
- Toyota Hiace Grand Cabin 13 passengers plus the driver The group and family vehicle. Gulf arrivals into Sialkot and Peshawar with heavy luggage, tour groups, weddings, long intercity runs.
- Toyota Coaster 25 to 29 passengers with hold luggage For a group journey, confirm the actual vehicle capacity and whether the accepted fare includes tolls.
How booking works
- 01 Tell us the journey Where from, where to, when, how many of you and how much luggage. Precise addresses matter more than you would think, because a Rawalpindi address and an Islamabad address twenty minutes apart are very different journeys.
- 02 Review the fare or quote Where offered, online fares and written quotes show the journey and vehicle class they cover. Check tolls, waiting time and extras before you confirm.
- 03 Check your confirmed details Keep your booking reference or written quote. Confirm the vehicle, driver where applicable, and pickup or collection instructions before travel.
- 04 You travel Follow the confirmed meeting or collection instructions. Check the vehicle and, where a driver is provided, their identity before starting.
Frequently asked questions
How far is Sialkot airport from Mirpur?
Wikipedia records 110 km, which makes Sialkot the closest airport to Mirpur. A routing site gives about 117 km by road and roughly one hour fifty minutes of driving, which is a third-party estimate rather than an authority figure.
Is Sialkot closer to Mirpur than Islamabad?
Yes. 110 km against 130 km, and it sits on the Kashmir side of the country. Islamabad still has more UK flights, so the airport usually follows the flight rather than the other way round.
Why is there an international airport at Sialkot?
Because the Sialkot business community built one. It is the only privately owned airport in Pakistan, funded by 223 directors investing Rs 5 million each, opened on 11 December 2007, and the case made for it at the time was explicitly about exporters and about the overseas Pakistanis of the region.
Which airlines fly to Sialkot?
Nine: AirSial, which is based there, plus Emirates, Qatar Airways, flydubai, Air Arabia, flyadeal, SalamAir, Fly Jinnah and PIA, serving the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait.
What does the UK government say about travelling to Azad Kashmir?
It advises against all but essential travel to Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and against all travel within ten miles of the Line of Control. Checked on 1 September 2026. That is advice to British nationals, not a legal bar, and it does not apply to Pakistani nationals or AJK residents. Check your travel insurance, which is usually void against FCDO advice.
Can you take us to Dadyal, Chakswari or Islamgarh instead?
Yes, and please say so. They are separate towns around the Mangla reservoir with real distances between them, and until the Rathoa Haryam bridge opens the roads go the long way round.
Do you meet flights arriving after midnight?
Yes. Most of the Gulf wide-bodies into Sialkot are night arrivals. Send the flight number and scheduled time and the driver will be inside arrivals with your name.
What vehicle will we need?
Count the cases, not the seats. A family of six arriving from Jeddah or Dubai with full checked baggage does not fit a seven-seat SUV, because the third row takes the boot. A Grand Cabin carries thirteen passengers plus the driver and is the usual answer here.
What is the toll?
We have not found a published rate for this route and will not invent one. Tolls are folded into the fixed price you’re shown before you pay, even on routes where the toll authority hasn’t published an official rate.
Can you also do the return to the airport at the end of the trip?
Yes, and booking both legs together is usually simpler. Give us the departure flight and the check-in time you want to make and we will work the pickup back from it.
Can you collect several relatives from different addresses?
Yes, if you tell us when you book. Multiple pickups change the route and the timing, so they need to be planned rather than added on the night.
Is the price fixed?
Yes, the moment you pay, for the journey as described including the town you named.
Tell us the journey and we will price it
Send the route, date, passenger count and luggage details. We will show an available live price or prepare a quote with the vehicle class and terms it assumes. Check the final offer before confirming; if the journey is unavailable, we will tell you.
