Prepare your Islamabad Airport transfer

It is the hub for PIA and SereneAir and it takes the country’s long-haul traffic, with Air China, British Airways, China Southern and Emirates alongside the Gulf and Asian carriers. A large share of arrivals are diplomatic, NGO and government passengers, and a large share are landing at hours when the city has nothing else running.
What actually happens when you land
Airport facilities and connectivity vary. Check current official airport information for SIM, Wi-Fi, ATMs and ground transport before travel. If you plan to use an app, arrange mobile data and an accepted payment method in advance, and keep a fallback contact plan.
Islamabad compounds it with distance. The terminal is 25 km out on a motorway spur, so a passenger who steps outside to work out a plan is 25 km from anywhere that can help, at whatever hour their long-haul flight happened to land.

What the airport itself tells you about taxis
This is worth quoting because it is unusually candid. The official airport website publishes no fares at all. It lists three cab operators working the terminal, Metro Radio Cab in the Concourse Hall around the clock, Islamabad Radio Cab and Yellow Cab, and its own advice to passengers is to bargain and agree the fare before the journey starts. There is no prepaid meter and no published public tariff at Islamabad. Whatever you pay is what you negotiated.
Street taxis in Islamabad are almost all black with a yellow painted roof, and their fares rose by roughly twenty per cent in March 2026 after the fuel increase. A widely-cited traveller account puts a radio taxi from the airport to Blue Area at around Rs 3,000, but that figure is third-party and undated, so treat it as a rough marker rather than a rate.
The Metrobus, and when it is no use
The Orange Line links the airport to Faiz Ahmed Faiz station in H-8/2, 25.6 km with seven stops, running every ten minutes since it opened on 18 April 2022. From there you change to the Red Line for Saddar or the Blue Line for Gulberg. It is cheap and it works well, with a traveller account putting the airport connector at around Rs 90.
The catch is the timetable. The network runs from 06:15 to 22:00, which means a late arrival has no transit option at all, and a passenger with three suitcases and a connection through two lines has a difficult evening even inside those hours. For a first arrival, at night, or with luggage, it is not a realistic plan.
The honest price ladder
We would rather set out the whole market than pretend we are the only option. Prices vary by operator, route, time and availability. Compare a current fare for the complete journey, including waiting, tolls, luggage fit and any return leg.
At Islamabad the top three rungs sit unusually close together, because the airport radio cabs have no published tariff either. You are negotiating in all three cases. What changes at the top of the ladder is that the negotiation happened before you flew.
One thing is no longer on that ladder at all. Uber left Pakistan completely on 30 April 2024 and Careem suspended ride-hailing on 18 July 2025. Any guide still listing them is out of date, and a great many still do.
Driver identity in the capital
Islamabad has taken this more seriously than anywhere else in Pakistan. Since 10 February 2026 the Deputy Commissioner has required every ride-hailing driver, across Bykea, inDrive and Yango, to register through the City Islamabad app with a CNIC and vehicle registration, and to display an issued QR code on the windscreen so passengers can verify them by scanning it. Non-compliance carries penalties.

Which vehicle actually fits

Can you collect from the airport to Rawalpindi?
Yes. Rawalpindi is a similar distance but a different kind of city: the street pattern is older and denser, so give a landmark alongside the address and allow more time than the distance suggests.
Will my phone work when I land?

Do I need to give you my flight number?

Is there a bigger vehicle for a family with luggage?
Yes. Tell us the number of passengers and the number of cases rather than the number of seats. A seven-seat vehicle usually loses its boot to the third row, so six people with six cases means a van rather than an SUV.
How do I know who is driving?

Can you take us on to Murree or Lahore from the airport?
Yes. Onward intercity journeys are commonly booked as a single movement from arrivals. Say so when you book, because it changes the vehicle and the driver hours.
Do you use Careem or Uber?
Neither operates ride-hailing in Pakistan. Uber left on 30 April 2024 and Careem suspended ride-hailing on 18 July 2025. Our drivers are engaged directly.
Is the price fixed?
