The short answer: the Pakistan to Saudi Arabia flight time is set mostly by which two airports you pair. Karachi is the closest major gateway, roughly 2,880 km in a straight line from Jeddah, so its air time is around an hour shorter than Lahore, Sialkot or Islamabad, which all sit 3,550-3,670 km out. Dammam and Riyadh are nearer to Pakistan than Jeddah or Madinah on every pairing. The number printed on your ticket is the airline’s scheduled block time (gate to gate), and it will usually be longer than a straight-line estimate because of taxiing, climb, routing and wind.
The flight is also only one part of the day. A family leaving a house in Faisalabad for a hotel near the Haram in Makkah is dealing with a road leg, an airport reporting window, the flight, Saudi arrival formalities and a second road or rail leg. That full chain, not the air time, decides when you should leave home and whether an elderly parent will be fit to pray on arrival.
Decision summary
- Shortest air time: Karachi to Dammam or Riyadh. Karachi to Jeddah is the shortest Jeddah pairing from Pakistan.
- Longest air time: Sialkot or Lahore to Jeddah or Madinah – the north-east of Punjab is the furthest point of the network from the Hejaz.
- Clocks: Saudi Arabia is two hours behind Pakistan all year. Neither country uses daylight saving, so the gap never changes.
- Biggest variable: not the flight but the two ground legs and the arrival hall, especially in Umrah peaks and around Hajj.
- Safety notes: the UK FCDO advises against all travel to Peshawar, including the city, so Peshawar figures are shown for completeness only. At the Saudi end, the FCDO reports Houthi missile and drone attacks since 13 July 2026 on cities including Jeddah and Riyadh, and warns of possible flight cancellations and airspace closures.
How long is the flight from Pakistan to Saudi Arabia, by city pair
No single official table lists block times for every route, and schedules shift by season, aircraft and day of week. So we built the comparison from facts we can check. The method: we took the great-circle (straight-line) distance between the two airports, then divided it by 830 km/h, the typical cruise speed quoted for aircraft such as the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 family in the Wikipedia summary of airliner cruise speeds. The result is an indicative air-time floor, not a timetable. Real block times add taxi-out, climb, descent, taxi-in and a routing that is rarely a straight line.

Distances are great-circle figures we calculated from airport coordinates published on each airport’s Wikipedia entry; times are those distances at 830 km/h. Treat both as a floor. Your scheduled block time will be longer, and the airline’s own itinerary is the only figure to plan around.
Three things jump out of the table. First, Lahore, Sialkot, Islamabad and Faisalabad are within about 150 km of each other on distance to Jeddah, so choosing between them should be about carriers, departure times and the road to the airport, not air time. Second, Karachi saves close to an hour against northern Punjab. Third, a Riyadh or Dammam ticket is not “the same trip, slightly different”: from Lahore, Dammam is some 1,200 km nearer than Jeddah.
Which gateways fly direct
Air time is irrelevant if there is no non-stop. The airline listings on Wikipedia’s airport pages (which change often, so confirm with the carrier) show broadly this picture for the Hejaz:
- Karachi: the widest choice – PIA to Jeddah, Madinah, Riyadh and Dammam, plus Saudia, flyadeal, flynas (which also lists Madinah), AirSial, Fly Jinnah and Serene Air on various Saudi routes.
- Lahore: PIA and airblue to Jeddah; Riyadh and Dammam are served by several more carriers. No Madinah non-stop appears in the current listing.
- Islamabad: Jeddah on PIA, Saudia, airblue, AirSial and Fly Jinnah; Madinah listed for PIA only.
- Multan: Jeddah on PIA, airblue, AirSial and Saudia; Madinah on PIA only.
- Sialkot: PIA lists Jeddah, Madinah, Riyadh and Dammam; AirSial lists Jeddah and Dammam; flyadeal lists Riyadh.
- Faisalabad: PIA to Jeddah and Madinah, and not much else to the Kingdom.
If Madinah first matters to you – many families prefer to start a trip there and finish in Makkah – that list narrows your airport choice more than any flight time does.
The two-hour clock trick on your ticket
Pakistan Standard Time is UTC+5; Saudi Arabia runs on UTC+3. Neither observes daylight saving, so the difference is a flat two hours every day of the year (see the Wikipedia entries on Pakistan Standard Time and Saudi Arabia Standard Time).
Tickets print local times at each end, which produces two predictable misreadings:
- Outbound looks two hours shorter than it is. An example: a flight leaving Lahore at 10:00 and landing in Jeddah at 12:30 has not taken two and a half hours. In Pakistani time it lands at 14:30, so the block time is four and a half hours.
- The return looks two hours longer. A Jeddah departure at 13:00 landing in Lahore at 21:30 reads as eight and a half hours; the real figure is six and a half, which on this route still suggests a stop or a long routing – worth checking before you book.
The fix: plan the Pakistani day in Pakistani time and every Saudi booking in Saudi time. The costly mistake is giving a Jeddah driver the Pakistani arrival time.
Peshawar: read this before planning
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office warnings for Pakistan advise against all travel to a list of districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa that includes Peshawar, “including the city of Peshawar”. It also advises against all but essential travel to Mardan, Nowshera, Swabi and several other districts in the province. Balochistan is under an “all travel” warning as a whole province, and the advice also covers areas close to the Afghan and Indian borders.
We include Peshawar in the table because families in the region do fly from Bacha Khan International Airport, where the airport’s listings show Saudia to Jeddah and Riyadh and PIA to Saudi points. We do not recommend Peshawar as a leisure gateway, and iDrive does not promote journeys into areas under an FCDO “all travel” warning. If you are outside the UK system, check your own government’s advice as well; it may differ.
Reporting and check-in windows at Pakistani airports
The departure hall is where most door-to-door timelines go wrong. Three points apply at every Pakistani gateway:
- The airline sets the deadline, not the airport. Counter opening and closing times differ between PIA, Saudia, airblue, AirSial, Fly Jinnah, flynas and flyadeal, and can change with the season or the aircraft. The time is printed on your e-ticket or confirmation and on the airline’s own site. Treat that as a hard cut-off.
- Pakistani departures have more layers than people expect. Terminal entry checks, check-in, immigration and security screening come one after another. Umrah seasons fill all of them at once, and group travellers often arrive together.
- Hajj flights may use a separate facility. Lahore, for example, has a dedicated Hajj terminal alongside the main Allama Iqbal terminal. Confirm which one your flight uses before you give the address to your driver.
Our working rule for planning, not a published standard: arrive at the terminal early enough that you would still make the counter deadline if the road leg ran an hour late. For a family travelling with wheelchairs, several suitcases and small children, add more on top.
Getting from the Pakistani airport kerb to the gate
The road leg to the airport is the piece you control most, and it is where a good plan earns back the time the airline takes from you. Allama Iqbal International sits about 15 km from central Lahore; Islamabad International is roughly 25 km from both Zero Point in Islamabad and Saddar in Rawalpindi; Sialkot’s airport is about 14 km west of the city; Faisalabad’s is on Jhang Road, around 10 km south-west of the centre. Short hops on paper, long ones at the wrong hour.
From another city, the motorway timing matters more than the city timing; on our Lahore airport transfers page you can set out the pickup town, passenger count and luggage so the timing is planned around the flight rather than guessed.
Saudi arrival processing: what stretches it
There is no officially published “average” time from touchdown to the arrivals kerb at Jeddah or Madinah, and anyone quoting a precise number is estimating. What we can say with confidence is which factors lengthen it:
- Which terminal you land at. At King Abdulaziz International in Jeddah, Terminal 1 is Saudia’s main base and handles domestic and international flights, while the North Terminal is used mainly by non-Saudi airlines and a dedicated Hajj Terminal takes pilgrim flights in season. Different buildings mean different walks, queues and pickup points.
- Season. Umrah peaks, Ramadan and the run-up to Hajj push more arrivals, many of them pilgrim groups, into the same hours.
- Your visa and documents. FCDO guidance for British travellers notes a separate Hajj visa for pilgrims, a passport expiring at least six months after arrival, and a meningococcal quadrivalent vaccine certificate for Hajj and Umrah pilgrims. A missing document is the one delay you cannot queue your way out of.
- Baggage. Group check-ins produce group baggage belts. If twenty families from your flight all brought three cases each, reclaim becomes the long step.
- Special assistance. Request a wheelchair through your airline when you book, not at the gate, so the chair meets the aircraft rather than the other way round.
- Regional disruption. The FCDO Saudi Arabia warnings page reports Houthi missile and drone attacks since 13 July 2026 on cities and airports including Jeddah and Riyadh, and tells travellers to expect possible cancellations and short-notice airspace closures. Keep the airline’s app on and your ground bookings flexible.
Check the FCDO Saudi Arabia entry requirements close to departure. They also say the Saudi authorities have stopped visitors who are not performing Hajj from flying to Jeddah, Madinah and Taif around the pilgrimage, which matters if you are visiting relatives rather than performing Hajj.
The onward leg from Jeddah or Madinah airport
Pakistan to Saudi Arabia Jeddah flight time is only half the story for pilgrims, because Jeddah is not the destination. King Abdulaziz International sits about 19 km north of Jeddah itself and serves Makkah as well; for most Pakistani families the hotel is in Makkah, not the city. You have two realistic options.
Haramain high-speed train
Terminal 1 has a station on a 3.75 km branch of the Haramain line, opened in December 2019. The main line runs at a service speed of 300 km/h; Wikipedia’s Haramain railway article puts Makkah to the Al-Sulimaniyah Jeddah station (77 km) at 43 minutes and Makkah to Madinah at about two hours. The train is quick once you are aboard; the time goes on reaching the platform with luggage, waiting for a departure and the transfer from Makkah station to the hotel. If you landed at the North Terminal or the Hajj Terminal rather than Terminal 1, the station is not on your doorstep.
Road transfer
A car or van goes from the arrivals kerb to the hotel door without a change, which is why families with elderly parents, wheelchairs or a lot of luggage tend to prefer it. The trade-off is road traffic around Makkah at peak prayer times and in the busiest Umrah weeks. For what stretches or shortens that drive, our sister company Hajj Umrah Taxi explains how long the Jeddah Airport to Makkah journey takes.
Madinah arrivals are simpler: Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International serves the city itself from a terminal opened in 2015, and it also takes charter flights in Hajj and Umrah seasons. The road leg to hotels near Al-Masjid an-Nabawi is short compared with Jeddah to Makkah, but still worth arranging in advance when you land with a group.
Worked example: a Faisalabad family flying from Lahore
This is an illustrative example. The flight times, check-in advice and road durations below are assumptions chosen to show the method; replace every one of them with the figures on your own ticket and your driver’s plan.
A family of five in Faisalabad – two parents, two children and a grandmother who uses a wheelchair at airports – is heading for a Makkah hotel. Faisalabad International has PIA to Jeddah, but in this example they choose Lahore for a departure time that suits them better, on PIA or airblue. The motorway option is the M-3, which has a Jaranwala exit and meets the M-2 just past Ravi Toll Plaza in Lahore.
| Step | Pakistan time (PKT) | Saudi time (AST) | Assumption used |
|---|---|---|---|
| Leave home in Faisalabad | 03:00 | 01:00 | Road leg of 3 hours including one stop |
| Arrive Allama Iqbal terminal | 06:00 | 04:00 | An hour spare over the airline’s advised arrival |
| Flight departs Lahore | 10:00 | 08:00 | Example timetable |
| Flight lands Jeddah | 14:30 | 12:30 | Example block time of 4h30 |
| Out of the arrivals hall | 16:00 | 14:00 | 90 minutes for immigration, bags and wheelchair handover |
| At the Makkah hotel | 17:30 | 15:30 | 90-minute road transfer |
On those assumptions the family is travelling for fourteen and a half hours, of which the flight is four and a half. The ticket, read in local times, says 10:00 to 12:30 – “two and a half hours” – and a relative in Makkah might expect them for lunch. They will reach the hotel in the middle of the afternoon.
What the example teaches:
- The road legs and the two airports take roughly twice as long as the flight. Time saved on the ground is worth more than a marginally shorter route.
- A grandmother who has been awake since 02:00 PKT should not be expected to perform Umrah on arrival. Plan a rest before the rites, and book the hotel check-in accordingly.
- Build every Saudi booking in Saudi time. The Jeddah pickup is 12:30 AST plus your processing buffer, not 14:30.
Choosing your gateway: a quick framework
- Start with the Saudi end. Decide whether you want to land in Madinah or Jeddah first. That alone can rule out Lahore, which has no Madinah non-stop in the current listings.
- List the non-stops from the two or three airports within reach. A family in Gujranwala or Sialkot can realistically use Sialkot or Lahore; a family in Faisalabad or Jhang can look at Faisalabad, Lahore or Multan.
- Compare the whole day, not the air time. A 20-minute shorter flight is irrelevant if the road to that airport is two hours longer.
- Check the calendar. Hajj season restrictions, Ramadan and school holidays change both flight availability and queue lengths at both ends.
- Book the ground legs around the flight you actually hold. If the schedule changes, the transfers need to change with it.
For the Pakistani side of that plan, our airport transfers across Pakistan cover the main international gateways, and families north of Lahore can plan a run to Sialkot International Airport instead. If you are starting from the city in the worked example, see car and driver options in Faisalabad. For a family-focused checklist that joins the Pakistani departure to the Jeddah arrival, our sister service Pakistan Taxi, part of the iDrive network, has a guide to linking the two ground journeys.
When your flight is ticketed, send us your journey details with the flight number, terminal and passenger needs. We will come back with the options available for that date; nothing is confirmed until you have accepted a quote and received confirmation.
Questions people ask
How many hours flight from Pakistan to Saudi Arabia?
It depends on the pair. Straight-line estimates at airliner cruise speed range from about two hours (Karachi to Dammam) to about four and a half (Sialkot or Lahore to Jeddah). Scheduled block times are longer; check your airline’s itinerary.
What is the Pakistan to Saudi Arabia flight duration from Karachi to Jeddah?
Karachi to Jeddah is about 2,880 km in a straight line, which works out at roughly three and a half hours at 830 km/h before taxi, climb and routing are added. It is the shortest Jeddah pairing from a major Pakistani airport.
Why does my ticket show a shorter flight than expected?
Saudi Arabia is two hours behind Pakistan. Outbound flights look two hours shorter than they are when you subtract the local times; return flights look two hours longer.
Can I fly direct from Lahore to Madinah?
The current airline listings for Allama Iqbal International show no Madinah non-stop. Islamabad, Karachi, Multan, Sialkot and Faisalabad do list Madinah services, mainly on PIA. Routes change, so confirm with the airline.
