Minibus / coach

When the party is bigger than a van will take, the choice is a Toyota Coaster or a full-size coach, and the two are not interchangeable.

Questions about this class

How many seats does a Coaster actually have?

There is no single answer and anyone giving you one is rounding. In Pakistan the same word covers several layouts: a saloon-trim Coaster with reclining two-plus-two seating is usually around twenty-two, a standard bench Coaster is commonly twenty-six to thirty, and the current model is specified as a twenty-nine seater. Operators across the market advertise the same class of vehicle at twenty-two, twenty-five, twenty-six to twenty-eight and twenty-nine. Book on the seat number, the trim and the layout, never on the word "Coaster" alone — tell us your head count and we will confirm the exact…

Should I take a Coaster or a full-size coach?

Head count and route decide it, in that order. Below about thirty people a Coaster is the right vehicle and it can go places a coach cannot — the Kaghan valley, Swat and Kalam, and the Karakoram Highway. Above about thirty, or when the luggage is the problem rather than the people, a coach is correct, but it confines you to motorways and main national highways. A common wedding arrangement is a coach for the city-to-city leg and Coasters for the venue shuttling.

Where does the luggage go?

This is the real difference between the two vehicles and it is the thing nobody publishes. A Coaster has no under-floor hold — bags go on the rear shelf, on the rearmost rows if you sacrifice them, and on a roof carrier. Load twenty-two people with a case each into a Coaster and you will be giving up seats to luggage. A full-size coach does have a proper under-floor hold and will take fifty-plus cases without touching the seating. If your group is flying in from the Gulf or the UK with heavy baggage, that hold is usually the deciding factor.

Can a Coaster go to Naran, Skardu or Hunza?

On the sealed roads, yes, and it is routine — Coasters run the Karakoram Highway to Gilgit and Hunza and the Kaghan road to Naran regularly. Expect it to be slow: a loaded Coaster on a long climb is not quick, and narrow shelf sections and tight hairpins are a genuine constraint on a vehicle that long. What it cannot do is unmetalled ground or anything requiring low-range four-wheel drive, which is where local jeeps take over. Tell us the full itinerary and we will say plainly which legs the Coaster covers and which need a different vehicle.

Do you provide buses for weddings?

Yes, and it is one of the most common uses of this class. The practical points to settle early are the venue approach, the number of separate movements across the day, and where the vehicle waits between them. Old-city and narrow-lane venues are the usual problem — send us the venue address when you enquire so we can confirm the vehicle physically fits before anything is booked.

Is the driver included?

Yes. This class is chauffeured only and there is no self-drive option on a Coaster or a coach. Drivers are vetted and carry a photo and a registration. On multi-day work away from base, the driver's accommodation and meals form part of what is being quoted, so raise the full itinerary at the quoting stage rather than adding days later.

How is a bus hire priced?

We do not publish a rate on this page, because a bus quote is driven by the route, the number of days, the number of separate movements, and whether the vehicle stays with you overnight — a single-day city shuttle and a five-day northern tour are not the same product. What we will commit to is that once we quote you a figure, that figure is fixed. Send the date, the route, the head count and the luggage volume and you will get a number you can plan against.

Can I hire a bus for one day only?

Yes. Single-day hire is standard for weddings, company outings, picnics and college trips, and it is quoted the same way as a longer booking. Give us the pick-up point, the destinations in order and roughly when you expect to finish, because a day with six venue movements and a day with one return run are different jobs.

Do you run corporate staff shuttles on a repeating schedule?

Yes. Recurring shuttle work — a plant-to-city run, a campus circuit, a project-team movement — is quoted as a standing arrangement rather than as separate daily bookings. Coasters are the usual vehicle for this because they are easier to route through city traffic than a full coach.

What size group needs a bus rather than a van?

Roughly fifteen and up. Below that a thirteen-seat high-roof Hiace or Grand Cabin is normally the better vehicle — cheaper to run, easier to park, and it will reach places a Coaster will not. Between fifteen and thirty, a Coaster. Above thirty, or when the luggage volume is the constraint, a full-size coach. If you are near a boundary, tell us the bag count as well as the head count, because luggage moves the answer more often than people do.
