What we commit to

Pakistan has a better motorway network than its reputation suggests, and it is the reason intercity travel by road is often the sensible option rather than the fallback. The M-2 runs 375 km from Lahore to Islamabad in six lanes. The M-4 covers 309 km from Pindi Bhattian to Multan via Faisalabad. The M-5 continues 392 km south to Sukkur. The M-9 links Karachi and Hyderabad in 136 km, and the M-16 Swat Expressway reaches Chakdara from the M-1.

Where the network stops, the character of the journey changes completely. The E-35, also designated M-15, Hazara Motorway hands over to the N-35 Karakoram Highway, and from there north you are on mountain roads where the relevant risks are landslides, seasonal passes and daylight rather than traffic.

Tolls, and the one figure we can fully defend

The M-2 end-to-end car toll is Rs 1,430 one way. That is the National Highway Authority rate after a seven per cent increase effective 5 July 2026, and it holds until 23 April 2027. A wagon pays Rs 2,390, a coaster Rs 3,350, a bus Rs 4,770, a two or three axle truck Rs 6,210 and an articulated truck Rs 7,980. It is the best-documented transport price in the country: official, dated, and with an expiry.

Other tolls we do not publish, because we could not verify current rates from an authority. The M-9 plaza at the Karachi end is the largest in Pakistan at twenty-four lanes and opened in December 2020; third-party sources put the M-16 toll at roughly Rs 800 to Rs 1,000. Where we cannot source a rate we show it on the quote as a line item at what is actually paid, rather than printing a number that might be a year out of date.

Why fuel makes every published fare unreliable

Petrol in Pakistan reached Rs 343.10 a litre under the OGRA notification effective 26 August 2026, with high-speed diesel at Rs 371.80. Twelve months earlier petrol was Rs 264.61. In a single move in March 2026 it rose Rs 55 a litre, and the whole transport market repriced within weeks: coach operators raised fares across the board, Pakistan Railways added five per cent to economy and ten per cent to air-conditioned classes for tickets booked from 9 March 2026, motorcycle ride-hailing went up five to ten per cent, and street taxis rose around twenty per cent.

The practical consequence is that any fare you find online without a date attached should be treated as fiction. It is also why we quote per journey rather than publishing a rate card that would be wrong by the time you read it.

The alternatives, route by route

On the Lahore to Islamabad corridor the competition is real and we will not pretend otherwise. Read off Bookme on 31 August 2026, coaches ran from FM Bilal at Rs 1,581 and Skyways at Rs 1,670 up to Daewoo Express at Rs 2,670 and Q Connect at Rs 5,950, all scheduled at four hours thirty-three minutes. Subak Raftar covers the 290 km of track in about four hours thirty-five minutes. Those are good options and for a solo traveller with one bag they are often the right ones.

They stop being the right ones when the journey has more than two people in it, when there is real luggage, when the terminals are a long way from where you actually need to be, or when the traveller cannot book. That last constraint is the one people underestimate: Pakistan Railways sells online tickets against a Pakistani national ID number and takes payment only from Pakistani-issued cards, which excludes most overseas visitors outright.

The closest public benchmark to a private car with a driver is inDrive City to City, which publishes recommended prices per route. Read those as floor prices for one direction, with a driver nobody has checked, in a car nobody has specified, negotiable and with no return leg priced in. Their own figures for Islamabad to Lahore and Lahore to Islamabad differ by several hundred rupees on the same road, which tells you what kind of number it is.

Long routes are multi-day routes

Islamabad to Skardu is twelve to sixteen hours in good conditions. Islamabad to Hunza is fourteen to twenty. Those are two-day journeys with an overnight stop, and we will quote them that way rather than pretending otherwise.

Tell us the journey and we will price it. A submitted request is not a booking until availability, price and terms are confirmed.

Which vehicle actually fits

Seat counts are the manufacturer figures. The passenger and luggage numbers beside them are what the vehicle carries in practice, with the cases people really travel with. If your party is near the limit, tell us the number of bags rather than the number of people, because that is what decides it.

  • Suzuki WagonR 3 passengers, 2 cases Short city transfers on a budget. The tall boot helps more than the engine does.
  • Toyota Yaris or Corolla 3 to 4 passengers, 2 to 3 large cases The workhorse. City work, airport transfers and the motorway run between Lahore and Islamabad.
  • Honda BR-V 5 passengers with luggage, or 7 with almost none Family airport transfers on paved routes. The third row eats the boot, so it suits children or short hops rather than seven adults with cases. Not a mountain vehicle.
  • Toyota Fortuner 5 passengers with full luggage, 7 travelling light Rough road and mountain work: Skardu, Hunza, Naran, Babusar. Ask for the diesel four-wheel-drive, because the petrol version is two-wheel-drive.
  • Toyota Land Cruiser 4 to 5 passengers with full luggage Protocol and expedition work, and a genuine choice for Skardu and Deosai. It returns 5 to 10 km a litre, which at Rs 343 a litre is the honest reason it costs what it costs.
  • Toyota Hiace Grand Cabin 13 passengers plus the driver The group and family vehicle. Gulf arrivals into Sialkot and Peshawar with heavy luggage, tour groups, weddings, long intercity runs.
  • Toyota Coaster 25 to 29 passengers with hold luggage Large groups, corporate shuttles and pilgrimage travel. Worth knowing that the motorway toll alone is Rs 3,350 each way against Rs 1,430 for a car.

How booking works

  1. 01 Tell us the journey Where from, where to, when, how many of you and how much luggage. Precise addresses matter more than you would think, because a Rawalpindi address and an Islamabad address twenty minutes apart are very different journeys.
  2. 02 We quote a fixed price One figure for the whole journey, with the vehicle class it assumes. If a motorway toll or a waiting period is part of it, you see that too.
  3. 03 You see the driver and the car Before the journey you get the driver photograph and the vehicle registration, so you know exactly who and what you are looking for.
  4. 04 You travel At an airport your driver waits inside arrivals with a name sign. Check the photograph and the registration plate against what we sent you before you get in.

Frequently asked questions

Which intercity routes do you cover?

The motorway corridors between Islamabad, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Karachi, Hyderabad and Peshawar, plus the hill and northern routes to Murree, Swat, Skardu, Gilgit and Hunza.

What is the M-2 toll?

Rs 1,430 one way for a car, jeep or taxi, end to end, under the National Highway Authority rate effective 5 July 2026 to 23 April 2027. Wagons pay Rs 2,390, coasters Rs 3,350 and buses Rs 4,770.

Are tolls included in the quote?

They are shown as a stated line item so you can see what is being charged and why, rather than buried in a single number.

Why do you not publish a rate card?

Because fuel moves faster than a rate card can. Petrol went from Rs 264.61 to Rs 343.10 a litre in twelve months. We quote per journey so the figure you are given is current.

Is the coach cheaper?

Usually, for one person with one bag. On Lahore to Islamabad on 31 August 2026 coaches ran from Rs 1,581 to Rs 5,950 at four hours thirty-three minutes. The cost people forget is getting to and from the terminals, which at the Lahore end means Thokar, over twenty kilometres from Gulberg.

Can I take the train instead?

On some corridors, yes, and Lahore to Rawalpindi is genuinely competitive on time. The obstacle for overseas visitors is booking: Pakistan Railways requires a Pakistani national ID number and a Pakistani-issued payment card for online tickets.

Do you drive at night on the motorways?

The main motorways are lit, fenced and patrolled and night running on them is normal. The judgement calls are the city segments at each end and the driver’s duty hours.

Can we stop on the way?

Yes. Add planned stops to the request so route and timing can be assessed and priced before you travel.

How long is too long for one day?

Roughly, anything past about eight hours of driving needs a plan rather than an assumption. Islamabad to Lahore and back is a normal day. Islamabad to Skardu or Hunza is not, and we quote those as multi-day journeys.

Is a van cheaper than two cars for a group?

Often, and the toll arithmetic is part of it: two cars pay two tolls and two drivers. But check luggage capacity before seats, because the constraint is usually the boot.

Do you cross into Azad Kashmir or Gilgit-Baltistan?

Yes for both, with the caveat that Gilgit-Baltistan is subject to seasonal road closures and landslides, so itineraries there need slack in them.

Is the price fixed?

Yes, once quoted and accepted, for the journey as described including the stated tolls.

Tell us the journey and we will price it

Send the route, the date, the number of travelling and how many cases you have. You will get one price for the whole journey and the vehicle class it assumes. If we cannot cover it properly we will say so rather than take the booking.
