Monthly hire is not a daily booking repeated thirty times. It is a different commercial arrangement, and the differences are mostly about the driver rather than the car.
If you are a company posting someone to Lahore for a quarter, or an expat back for six months without a vehicle, this is what you are actually buying and what determines the price.
What a retained driver arrangement is
On a daily hire, a driver takes your job and then goes to someone else’s. On a monthly hire he does not. For the length of the engagement he is assigned to you, drives your vehicle, learns your routes and your building’s security procedures, and is not offered to anyone else.
That is the product. The car is the easy part — any operator can put a Corolla on the road. What you are paying for over a month is one known person who turns up at the same time every morning, knows that your Tuesday meeting is in Gulberg and your Thursday one is at the port, and does not have to be re-briefed by a stranger every few days.
It also changes the risk you are carrying. On thirty separate daily bookings you get thirty allocation decisions, thirty chances of a late arrival and thirty different people who have your address. On one monthly booking you get one.

The hire day is 24 hours
This is where most confusion in the Pakistani market starts, so it is worth being explicit.
A hire day with us is 24 hours from pick-up. Not a working day, not a shift — 24 hours. The same definition applies to self-drive.
That is not the market norm, and you should compare quotes knowing it. Lahore operators commonly publish a 12-hour standard daily rental period, with a separate arrangement for outstation work; one publishes a “12-hour service period in Lahore” with “full day service for outstation trips”. Others quote 12 hours as the standard day across their fleet. A headline monthly figure built on 12-hour days is a different product from the same figure built on 24-hour days, and the gap shows up as overtime on your invoice rather than in the quote you compared.
So when you are collecting quotes for monthly hire in Karachi, Lahore or Islamabad, the first question is not the price. It is: how many hours is a day, and what happens after them.
Nights away from base: accommodation and meals
If a monthly engagement stays inside one city, this does not arise. The driver goes home.
The moment the work runs beyond 24 hours away from base — a week in the north, a factory visit in Faisalabad with an overnight, a director doing four cities in five days — the driver has to sleep and eat somewhere that is not his home. On any booking over 24 hours we add the driver’s accommodation and meals for each night he is away from base. That is:
- quoted to you as an estimate before the booking starts, not discovered afterwards
- confirmed in writing
- waived entirely if you house the driver yourself
That last point is worth taking up. Companies with a guest house, a site camp, or a family with a spare room routinely house the driver, and the accommodation element simply comes off. Tell us at quotation stage and we will price it that way.
This is not a charge we invented. It is standard across the market, though rarely explained before you book. One Lahore operator publishes driver meals at Rs 500 in the city and Rs 2,000 outstation. A Karachi operator states plainly that “driver meal and accommodation allowances for overnight or outstation trips are usually the client’s responsibility.” Another lists “toll taxes, car fuel, driver food, and accommodations” as excluded from the car rent on outstation work. The difference is that most quote it after the fact. We quote it in advance and let you remove it.
Surcharges run until the booking ends
The second thing people find counter-intuitive: on a long engagement, a night surcharge is not billed only for the hour the car was moving after 22:00.
The reasoning is the same as everything else on this page. The driver is retained. He is not available to another customer at 06:00 because he was driving you at 01:00, and he is not available to another customer the next afternoon either, because he is still yours. Once a booking is running, our surcharges — the night surcharge for travel between 22:00 and 06:00, and charges for changes to route, stops or timing after the quote — apply for the duration of the booking rather than being switched off between journeys. Waiting beyond the allowance agreed in your quote is charged separately too.
If your pattern involves regular late finishes — a night shift, a factory running two shifts, an events schedule — say so up front. It is far better priced into the quote as a known pattern than added at the end of the month as a surprise.
What the market includes, and what we do
The single biggest difference between quotes is not the number. It is what the number covers.

That first column is not a criticism of anyone. It is simply how much of the Pakistani market prices, and the sources are the operators’ own pages. But it means a monthly figure with fuel and tolls excluded is not comparable to one with them included. On a route like Lahore to Islamabad the M-2 car toll alone is Rs 1,430 end to end after the last increase, and a monthly hire doing that run weekly accumulates a real number.
One Karachi operator gives sensible advice we would endorse: before you accept any monthly quote, confirm fuel responsibility, tolls and parking policy, the driver allowance for outstation work, and the overtime policy for full-day bookings. Get all four in writing.
Self-drive by the month
If you would rather drive yourself, monthly self-drive is a different set of terms again. Ours are simple: mileage is unlimited, the car comes back at the same fuel level it left with, and tolls, parking and any fines are yours. There is no driver, so no allowances and no overtime — but also no one to leave the car with while you are in a meeting.
The market norm here is worth knowing too. Monthly packages are commonly published with city mileage included and intercity mileage charged separately; published Lahore monthly figures run from around Rs 150,000 for a Yaris to Rs 900,000 for a Land Cruiser, though those are one operator’s listings rather than a market rate and they exclude fuel. How a monthly quote is put together
We do not publish live prices. Monthly hire is quoted in writing, and the quote is fixed once agreed. To produce one we need:
The vehicle class. Not the model — the job. Airport runs with luggage, five staff to a site, or one director to meetings are three different cars.
The pattern. Roughly what time does the day start and end, how many days a week, and is there a standing weekend requirement.
The geography. City-only, or intercity. If intercity, how often and overnight or not — this is the single largest variable in a monthly price.
The nights away. Approximately how many, and whether you can house the driver.
The start and end dates. A month means a calendar month here, not thirty running days, unless you tell us otherwise.
Give us those five things and the quote will be accurate. Give us three and it will have to carry assumptions, and assumptions are what turn into disputes at the end of the month.
