Peshawar is compact in a way the other big Pakistani cities are not. The airport sits inside the cantonment on Airport Road, ten to twenty minutes from Hayatabad, University Town, Gulberg and DHA, and the railway station is 4.4 km northeast of it. Very little here is a long transfer. The considerations that matter are different ones.
Read the travel advice first
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office advises against all travel to Peshawar, including the city. Peshawar is named individually in its Khyber Pakhtunkhwa list, alongside Swat, Buner, Charsadda, Kohat, Khyber and the former tribal districts. Mardan, Nowshera, Malakand, Shangla and Swabi carry the lighter advice against all but essential travel. Checked against gov.uk on 1 September 2026.
We put that at the top rather than the bottom because it changes what a sensible booking looks like. It is advice to British nationals rather than a legal bar, and it says nothing at all about Pakistani nationals or residents, for whom Peshawar is an ordinary city. For a foreign passport holder it has two practical consequences: most UK travel insurance is void for travel against FCDO advice, and consular assistance is limited where the advice is against all travel. Read it yourself and check your insurer. We will tell you plainly which journeys in this province we are willing to drive and which we are not.
Moving around the city
The Zu Peshawar bus rapid transit runs a 27 km dedicated corridor from 06:00 to 22:00 with distance-based fares starting at around Rs 30. It is cashless, so it needs a Zu Card or the app, which rules it out for a visitor on the day they arrive. Beyond that the city is served by negotiated taxis and a thinner app market than Lahore or Karachi, particularly late at night.
The airport is worth understanding as a piece of local character rather than just a facility. Around three-quarters of its flights are international, on roughly 6,920 movements carrying about 1.16 million passengers, which means large aircraft arriving infrequently, largely from the Gulf, largely at night, and largely full of families with a great deal of luggage. A mostly-disused railway line still crosses the runway.
What we are usually asked for
Three things, mainly. Airport pickups for Gulf-returning families, where the constraint is luggage capacity rather than seats. Day hire for visitors covering the old city, Qissa Khwani Bazaar, the Peshawar Museum and Hayatabad. And the run to Islamabad, which is about two hours on the M-1 and is the single most requested intercity journey from here.
For the airport work in particular, tell us the number of cases rather than the number of passengers. Four adults with seven large cases is a Grand Cabin, which carries thirteen passengers plus a driver, not a seven-seat SUV whose third row takes the boot space.
We will say no when we should
There are destinations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa we will decline, and there are journeys that depend on a permit we cannot obtain for you. We would rather tell you at the quote stage than take a booking we should not have taken.

Costs for other operators checked on August 31, 2026 and published from their own booking systems, official notices or named third-party sources. Fuel in Pakistan moved from Rs 264.61 a litre in September 2025 to Rs 343.10 by August 2026, so fares here move quickly. Treat these as a guide and confirm with the operator.
Which vehicle actually fits
Seat counts are the manufacturer figures. The passenger and luggage numbers beside them are what the vehicle carries in practice, with the cases people really travel with. If your party is near the limit, tell us the number of bags rather than the number of people, because that is what decides it.
- Suzuki WagonR 3 passengers, 2 cases Short city transfers on a budget. The tall boot helps more than the engine does.
- Toyota Yaris or Corolla 3 to 4 passengers, 2 to 3 large cases The workhorse. City work, airport transfers and the motorway run between Lahore and Islamabad.
- Honda BR-V 5 passengers with luggage, or 7 with almost none Family airport transfers on paved routes. The third row eats the boot, so it suits children or short hops rather than seven adults with cases. Not a mountain vehicle.
- Toyota Fortuner 5 passengers with full luggage, 7 travelling light Rough road and mountain work: Skardu, Hunza, Naran, Babusar. Ask for the diesel four-wheel-drive, because the petrol version is two-wheel-drive.
- Toyota Land Cruiser 4 to 5 passengers with full luggage Protocol and expedition work, and a genuine choice for Skardu and Deosai. It returns 5 to 10 km a litre, which at Rs 343 a litre is the honest reason it costs what it costs.
- Toyota Hiace Grand Cabin 13 passengers plus the driver The group and family vehicle. Gulf arrivals into Sialkot and Peshawar with heavy luggage, tour groups, weddings, long intercity runs.
- Toyota Coaster 25 to 29 passengers with hold luggage Large groups, corporate shuttles and pilgrimage travel. Worth knowing that the motorway toll alone is Rs 3,350 each way against Rs 1,430 for a car.

Can I hire a car and driver for a day in the city?
Yes. The old city, Qissa Khwani Bazaar, the Peshawar Museum and Hayatabad make a natural day, and a waiting car is more practical than repeated pickups.
Do ride-hailing apps work here?
inDrive, Yango and Bykea operate in Pakistan, but the market is thinner in Peshawar than in Lahore or Karachi, especially late at night. Uber and Careem no longer operate at all.
Do you meet late-night international flights?
