Lahore is the easiest Pakistani city to enjoy and one of the harder ones to move around efficiently. The distances are not large. The problem is that a small number of junctions carry an enormous proportion of the traffic, and a driver who does not know which ones to avoid at which hour turns a twenty-minute trip into an hour.
In January 2025 Lahore Traffic Police reorganised the city into six management sectors, Nawan Kot, Shera Kot, Niaz Baig, Multan Road, New Airport and Bedian Road, plus Bhobatian, and named the pressure points as it did so. Thokar Niaz Baig and the Motorway Naka lead the list, followed by Babu Sabu Chowk, Multan Chungi, and the airport-side cluster of Burki Road and DHA Phases 6 to 8.
The geography that catches people out
Allama Iqbal International is on the eastern side of the city. That makes DHA and Cantt the near side and the Walled City, Anarkali and Mall Road the long haul across town, which is the reverse of what most visitors assume when they book a hotel. It also means a day that combines a morning in the Walled City with an afternoon in DHA spends a substantial part of itself in transit.
The other end of the city has the same effect for a different reason. Thokar Niaz Baig is where the M-2 begins, and it is where almost every intercity coach terminates, more than twenty kilometres from Gulberg. A coach fare to Islamabad is therefore not the whole cost of getting to Islamabad, and an intercity departure from a Gulberg hotel starts with a substantial city journey.
What a day in Lahore actually looks like
Most requests we get for Lahore are day hire rather than single rides, and the reason is the itinerary. Badshahi Mosque, the Lahore Fort, the Walled City gates, Wazir Khan Mosque, Shalimar Gardens and the Wagah border ceremony do not sit in a neat line, and Wagah in particular is a fixed-time event about 24 km east of the city that has to be planned backwards from the ceremony rather than forwards from lunch.
Booked as separate rides that is a day of standing on pavements. Booked as a car and driver, it is one vehicle that waits while you are inside, keeps your bags, and knows that leaving the Fort at four to reach Wagah is optimistic.
The alternatives
Lahore has the fullest app market in the country. Yango operates here and gives fixed or near-fixed upfront fares, which makes it the most predictable app option in Pakistan; inDrive works by negotiation and has no published car tariff; Bykea is bikes and rickshaws and is not a luggage product. Uber and Careem no longer run ride-hailing anywhere in Pakistan, whatever older guides say. Street taxis are negotiated, and their fares rose roughly twenty per cent in March 2026 after the fuel increase.
All of the app options depend on you having a working local phone, mobile data and a payment method that the app accepts. For residents that is fine. For a visitor on the first day of a trip, it usually is not.
Plan around Wagah, not after it
The border ceremony has a fixed start time, the approach road closes to traffic before it, and the return afterwards is one of the busiest movements of the Lahore day. If Wagah is in your plan, tell us and we will build the rest of the day around it.

Costs for other operators checked on August 31, 2026 and published from their own booking systems, official notices or named third-party sources. Fuel in Pakistan moved from Rs 264.61 a litre in September 2025 to Rs 343.10 by August 2026, so fares here move quickly. Treat these as a guide and confirm with the operator.
Which vehicle actually fits
Seat counts are the manufacturer figures. The passenger and luggage numbers beside them are what the vehicle carries in practice, with the cases people really travel with. If your party is near the limit, tell us the number of bags rather than the number of people, because that is what decides it.
- Suzuki WagonR 3 passengers, 2 cases Short city transfers on a budget. The tall boot helps more than the engine does.
- Toyota Yaris or Corolla 3 to 4 passengers, 2 to 3 large cases The workhorse. City work, airport transfers and the motorway run between Lahore and Islamabad.

How long does it take to cross Lahore?
It depends far more on the junction than the distance. Thokar Niaz Baig, the Motorway Naka, Babu Sabu Chowk, Multan Chungi and the Burki Road and DHA Phases 6 to 8 cluster are the named pressure points and they can double a journey.
Is the airport near the Walled City?
No. The airport is on the eastern side of the city, so DHA and Cantt are close to it and the Walled City, Anarkali and Mall Road are right across town.
Can you take us to the Wagah border ceremony?
Yes, and it needs planning backwards from the ceremony time. It is about 24 km east of the city, the approach closes to traffic beforehand and the return afterwards is heavy.

Where do intercity coaches leave from?
Mostly Thokar Niaz Baig, which is over twenty kilometres from Gulberg. That city leg is part of the real cost of a coach journey.
Can you take us on to Islamabad?
Yes. The M-2 is 379 km and about four and a half hours, starting at Thokar. Book it as one movement from your hotel rather than as a separate leg.
Do you cover DHA, Gulberg, Model Town and Johar Town?
Yes, all of them, along with Cantt, Bahria Town Lahore and the outer phases. Give the block and phase where relevant.
Can the driver wait while we are inside a site?
Yes, and on a Lahore sightseeing day that is the point of the arrangement. Tell us the plan and the waiting is priced in.
Will I know who is driving?
