Bacha Khan International is a small airport with an unusual traffic mix. It handles about 1.16 million passengers a year on roughly 6,920 aircraft movements, which means big aircraft and not many of them, and around three-quarters of its flights are international. Arrivals here skew heavily towards Gulf-returning workers and diaspora families with a great deal of luggage rather than towards domestic business travellers.
It sits inside Peshawar Cantonment on Airport Road with a single terminal, two airbridges added in 2018 and a 9,000-foot runway. It also has one genuine curiosity: a railway line, described as rarely operational, still crosses the runway.
Travel advice comes first on this page
We are not going to lead with journey times here, because the current position is stronger than most visitors expect. The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office advises against all travel to Peshawar, including the city itself. Peshawar is named individually in its Khyber Pakhtunkhwa list, alongside Swat, Buner, Charsadda, Kohat, Khyber and the former tribal districts. Checked against gov.uk on 1 September 2026.
That is the British government’s advice to British nationals. It is not a legal bar, and it says nothing about Pakistani nationals or residents, for whom Peshawar is an ordinary city with an ordinary airport. But if you hold a foreign passport it has two consequences worth knowing before you book a flight, not after: most UK travel insurance is void for travel against FCDO advice, and consular help is limited where the FCDO advises against all travel.

What actually happens when you land
Three things are true at every Pakistani airport and none of them appear in the brochure. There are no tourist SIM counters in arrivals, so a phone that worked at the departure gate has no data on landing. Airport cash machines frequently decline foreign cards. And the app-based options that look obvious from a laptop at home need both of those things working before a car will come.
Peshawar makes this sharper than most. Three-quarters international traffic means most arriving passengers are landing on a foreign SIM after a Gulf sector, often late, and often with more luggage than a saloon car will take.
That is the argument for arranging the car before you fly. A driver waiting inside arrivals with your name does not require you to have a local number, mobile data or rupees in your pocket. We meet arriving passengers inside the terminal, and the driver’s photograph and the vehicle registration reach you before the car does.
The city, and how close it is
The one piece of good news about the transfer is the distance. The airport is inside the cantonment, ten to twenty minutes from Hayatabad, University Town, Gulberg and DHA, with Peshawar Railway Station 4.4 km to the northeast. There is very little in Peshawar that is a long transfer from the terminal.
The Zu Peshawar bus rapid transit system runs a 27 km dedicated corridor from 06:00 to 22:00 with distance-based fares starting around Rs 30. It is cashless: you need a Zu Card or the app, which is another thing an arriving international passenger does not have. Islamabad is about two hours away on the M-1, and Peshawar to Islamabad is one of the more common onward runs we are asked for.
The honest price ladder
We would rather set out the whole market than pretend we are the only option. From cheapest to dearest, an airport transfer in Pakistan runs: public transport, then a Bykea bike, then inDrive or Yango, then a negotiated street taxi, then an airport radio cab, then a pre-booked chauffeur.
Peshawar has the thinnest app market of the airports we cover, so the middle of that ladder is less reliable here than in Karachi or Lahore, particularly late at night and particularly for a party with a lot of luggage.
One thing is no longer on that ladder at all. Uber left Pakistan completely on 30 April 2024 and Careem suspended ride-hailing on 18 July 2025. Any guide still listing them is out of date, and a great many still do.
Luggage is the constraint here
A Gulf sector arriving at Peshawar routinely means four or five people and six or seven large cases. Tell us the number of cases rather than the number of passengers, because that is what decides whether the answer is a sedan, an SUV or a Grand Cabin.

Costs for other operators checked on August 31, 2026 and published from their own booking systems, official notices or named third-party sources. Fuel in Pakistan moved from Rs 264.61 a litre in September 2025 to Rs 343.10 by August 2026, so fares here move quickly. Treat these as a guide and confirm with the operator.
Which vehicle actually fits
Seat counts are the manufacturer figures. The passenger and luggage numbers beside them are what the vehicle carries in practice, with the cases people really travel with. If your party is near the limit, tell us the number of bags rather than the number of people, because that is what decides it.

Neither operates ride-hailing anywhere in Pakistan. Uber left on 30 April 2024 and Careem suspended ride-hailing on 18 July 2025.
