Group van / people carrier

A group van is the right answer when one car will not hold the party and two cars will not hold the plot. This class covers everything from a nine-seat executive MPV up to a fourteen-seat high-roof Hiace, all supplied with a driver — self-drive is not offered on this class.

Questions about this class

What is the difference between a Hiace and a Grand Cabin?

They are the same vehicle family, not two different vans. "Grand Cabin" is the high-roof, Japanese-import grade of the Toyota Hiace, and in Pakistan the name has become the way people ask for the tall version. The practical difference is headroom and luggage: you can stand up inside a Grand Cabin and stack bags high behind the rear row, where a standard-roof Hiace makes you duck and puts the luggage on laps or a roof carrier. If you are doing an airport run with heavy cases or a multi-day northern trip, ask for the Grand Cabin specifically.

How many people actually fit in a 13 or 14 seat van?

The seat count and the comfortable count are different numbers, and we would rather you knew that before the day. A Grand Cabin is specified at fourteen persons and is advertised across the Pakistani market at thirteen. Thirteen adults will physically sit in it. Thirteen adults with a case each will not, because the rear row becomes the luggage bay. As a rule of thumb, take the seat count and subtract two if everyone is bringing a large case. Tell us the head count and the bag count when you enquire and we will put you in the right size.

Can a van go to Skardu, Hunza or Naran?

On the sealed roads, yes, and it is done constantly — the Karakoram Highway to Gilgit and Hunza, the Kaghan valley road to Naran, and the Swat expressway up to Kalam are all normal van work. What a van cannot do is unmetalled ground and anything needing low-range four-wheel drive: Deosai, Fairy Meadows, Babusar in poor weather, and the rougher side valleys. Those need a 4x4. If your itinerary mixes both, the usual arrangement is a van for the main legs and a local jeep for the last section, and we will tell you where that split falls.

Is the driver included, and can I drive it myself?

The driver is included and this class is chauffeured only — we do not offer these vans on self-drive. Drivers are vetted and carry a photo and registration. On a multi-day trip out of your home city, the driver's stay and meals are part of what you are quoting for, so raise the itinerary up front rather than day by day.

How much luggage really fits?

Ask in cases, not litres, because no useful boot figure exists for these vehicles in this market. A high-roof Grand Cabin with ten or eleven people aboard will take roughly ten to twelve large cases stacked behind the rear row. Fill all thirteen seats and you are down to hand luggage plus a roof carrier. A nine-seat executive MPV such as a Carnival or a Staria carries the people beautifully and the bags poorly — with every seat occupied there is very little space behind the third row. Overseas families arriving with excess baggage should be booking a high-roof Hiace, not an MPV.

Do you meet the family at the airport?

On airport journeys, yes — meet and greet at arrivals is part of an airport booking, which matters when a party of twelve is coming through Sialkot or Islamabad at three in the morning with a trolley stack. Give us the flight number and the terminal when you book so the driver is at the right door.

Which van is right for a wedding?

It depends on what the van is doing. For moving guests between hotel and venue in one city, a thirteen-seat high-roof Hiace does the most work per trip and copes with people getting in and out in formal clothes. For carrying the couple's immediate family or senior guests, a Carnival or a Staria is the more comfortable vehicle and looks the part on arrival. Most wedding bookings we see use both. Check the venue approach with us first if it is an old-city or narrow-lane address.

Is a diesel or a petrol van better for a long trip?

For long intercity and mountain running, diesel is the cheaper vehicle to move and it is what most of the Pakistani van fleet is built around. Be aware that several vans people assume are diesel are not: the Hyundai Grand Starex sold in Pakistan is a 2.4 petrol, the Kia Carnival here is a 3.5 V6 petrol, and the imported Grand Cabin is commonly a 2.7 petrol automatic. Those are smoother and quieter, and they drink more on a Lahore to Skardu run. If fuel economy over distance is the deciding factor, say so and we will steer you to the diesel.

Can I book a van from overseas before I fly?

Yes, and it is the common pattern on this class. Book from the UK, Saudi Arabia, the UAE or anywhere else before travelling, give us the arrival airport, the head count and the bag count, and the vehicle is arranged against your flight. The price is fixed once we quote it, so the number you agree from abroad is the number that applies when you land.

What happens if my group is bigger than fourteen?

Then you are looking at the minibus and coach class rather than a second van. A Toyota Coaster covers roughly twenty-two to twenty-nine seats depending on the trim and is the standard vehicle for tour parties, and a full-size coach handles a large wedding or pilgrimage movement with an under-floor luggage hold. Splitting a party of eighteen across two vans usually costs more and moves slower than one Coaster.
