How many people actually fit in an economy hatchback?+
It depends which one. The Cultus, Swift and Wagon R are five-seat cars and carry four adults in comfort. The Suzuki Alto and the Daihatsu Mira are four-seat cars — that is the registered capacity, not a suggestion. In every case the boot fills up before the seats do, so four adults with airport luggage is beyond this class.
Can I take an economy hatchback on the Lahore–Islamabad motorway?+
The Cultus, Swift and Wagon R do the M-2 run perfectly well. The Alto and the Mira will complete it, but with four people aboard and the air-conditioning running they are slow on the long inclines and noisy at 110–120 km/h. For that journey with a full car, a standard sedan is the better vehicle.
Can I hire one of these without a driver?+
Yes. Self-drive is available on this class, and in Pakistan it is the class most people self-drive. You can also book any of these with a chauffeur if you would rather not drive.
Is an economy hatch suitable for Murree, Naran or Skardu?+
Murree and the metalled Galiyat roads are fine in dry weather. Naran town on the metalled road is marginal with a full car. Skardu, Hunza, Babusar Top, Fairy Meadows and Lake Saif-ul-Malook are not suitable at all — those journeys need a high-clearance four-wheel drive, not a hatchback.
Which is better for hire, the Swift or the Cultus?+
The Cultus is a 998 cc three-cylinder car and the cheapest of the two to run. The Swift is a 1,197 cc four-cylinder car with a slightly larger boot and is noticeably more settled at motorway speed. For pure city work, take the Cultus. For a mix of city and motorway, take the Swift.
